Jay Jackson Excited for Opportunity with the Blue Jays’

Right-handed pitcher Jay Jackson joined the Toronto Blue Jays’ organization this month as a free agent signing. Jackson, who offers the Blue Jays’ pitching depth as he has pitched 57 2/3 innings in the big leagues during his career; is looking to compete with the big club in 2023.

“I’m looking forward to contributing to a playoff team,” said Jackson. “And I’m looking forward to having a chance to win and be a part of a World Series.”

Splitting time with the Atlanta Braves and Triple-A Gwinnett in 2022; Jackson pitched well at both levels.

Pitching 21 2/3 innings with Gwinnett last season, Jackson racked up 26 K’s and maintained a WHIP of 1.06. He would later pitch an additional 1 1/3 innings in the big leagues where he had a WHIP of 0.75 out of the Braves’ bullpen.

While his time in the Braves’ system was short Jackson learned a lot about himself in 2022, “My biggest takeaways from playing with the Braves were that I need to trust myself and my body.” stated Jackson.

Currently using a four-pitch mix of a 4-seam fastball, a 2-seam fastball, a slider, and a changeup in his repertoire; has worked well for Jackson.

“I try to work every pitch off my fastball,” explained Jackson. “I believe my fastball helps guide me for my other pitches.”

The righty feels his pitches tunnel well too, “I feel they tunnel well as long as I keep a consistent arm slot and stay through the ball.” Jackson added.

Performing primarily as a reliever throughout his professional career, Jackson loves his bullpen role.

“I like that we have a chance to come into multiple games,” said Jackson. “I love the idea of helping the team as much as possible.”

And Jackson worked on his body this off-season, so he’ll be ready for spring training and the 2023 season as well.

“I worked on being able to trust my body and feel my body underneath myself,” explained Jackson. “Building myself back to be stronger.”

Welcome, Jay Jackson!
