Ryan holds several single-season and career baseball records at Wayne State University. He hit .424 his senior year, and finished his collegiate career with a batting average of .401. He was named 1st Team All-Region in 2010, and is the only player in school history to hit over .400 in three college seasons.
Most recently, Ryan starred in the Intercounty Baseball League (Canada), where he hit .333 and was named a 2nd Team All-Star.
